The African Diaspora: Black-Owned Businesses Expanding to the Motherland

The African continent is rising. With a growing middle class and increased spending power, it presents a huge opportunity for ambitious companies.
This is especially true for black-owned businesses. Africa is seeing a new wave of entrepreneurs and innovators creating everything from technology to consumer goods. And many are looking back to their roots and expanding into African markets.
Take beauty brand Carol's Daughter. Founded by Lisa Price in her Brooklyn kitchen, it's now part of L'Oreal and sells its natural hair and skincare products across the US. In 2019, Carol's Daughter launched in Nigeria to serve the booming natural haircare market.
Other black-owned brands like FUBU and SheaMoisture are also staking their claim in Africa. They recognize the opportunity to bring high-quality products to an underserved audience.
For black entrepreneurs, the African expansion makes perfect sense. These businesses can leverage their heritage and insights into African beauty, style and culture. And as the middle class grows across the continent, this represents a chance to build an enduring customer base.
Africa is the future for many industries. For black-owned companies, it's also a homecoming. The time is now for the African diaspora to invest back in the motherland.

I created a global platform called AfriMatch. AfriMatch makes it easy to connect black people across the diaspora and in the motherland to start businesses and safely invest in one another to create generational wealth for us all.
We do this by assisting in the most complex of processes, helping diasporan and African entrepreneurs connect and partner to create and expand businesses. We link you with local professionals such as accountants, lawyers, relocation specialists, and realtors and present potential investor matches. We do this to leverage our intellectual and economic resources to supercharge the development of Africa and so that you can enjoy the abundance of your birthright.
